David Faxon, MD

Dr. David Faxon is the past Associate Chief of Cardiology, Clinical Director of Ambulatory Cardiovascular Services and Vice Chair of Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Senior Lecturer at Harvard Medical School. 


He graduated from Hamilton College and received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine followed by internship and residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and his Cardiology Fellowship at Boston University Medical Center. He directed the Cath lab at BU where he established one of the first angioplasty programs in the USA in 1980. He was the Chief of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at the University of Southern California (1993-2000) and the University of Chicago (2000-2006). He is the Past President of American Heart Association (2001-2) and has served on numerous committees at the AHA and ACC. He received the Gold Heart Award from the AHA. He has served as an Associate Editor of Circulation and was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions.  He was the past President of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions and the Vascular Disease Foundation. He has been a member of the ABIM Cardiovascular Board and the ACGME Residency Review Committee in Internal Medicine. He is on the Board of the Alliance for a Healthy Generation. Dr Faxon has over 500 publications and 4 books primarily in the area of interventional cardiology.
