Dr. Payal Kohli is a noninvasive Cardiologist and founding partner of Cherry Creek Heart in Denver, Colorado, a medical correspondent for television and a prolific writer. She conceived the idea for DocChat because she felt that she wanted to create a platform and community to discuss the trials and tribulations of practicing physicians in a pragmatic, real-world way.
Dr. Kohli is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Kohli earned her undergraduate degree from MIT with a perfect GPA and her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, magna cum laude. She completed her Internal Medicine training at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women’s Hospital and her Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship from University of California San Francisco (UCSF).
She obtained her Cardiovascular Research Fellow from the prestigious TIMI Study Group in the Cardiovascular Division at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where she authored and pioneered the dozens of original publications in Cardiology. She has published in leading journals, including JAMA, Lancet, Circulation, and JACC. She has received multiple honors and Young Investigator Awards, including from the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections. She completed her Cardiovascular Disease fellowship, Advanced Echocardiography and Preventive Cardiology Fellowships from the top-ranked University of California San Francisco.
Clinically, Dr. Kohli’s interests are in preventive cardiology, echocardiography and heart disease in women. She has spoken and presented internationally on cardiovascular clinical research. She was the Associate Editor of JACC Imaging, the inaugural Media Editor for JACC and was the immediate past section editor of Women and Ischemic Heart Disease for Current Atherosclerosis. She is also on the editorial board for the Prevention Council of ACC.org and is the Chief Editor in Cardiology Consult on Medscape. In addition, she is the On-Air Medical Expert and Chief Medical Correspondent for Tegna Broadcasting, which owns over 50 local television channels. Dr. Kohli has won numerous awards and in her spare time, enjoys writing about the practice of medicine and challenges faced by physicians.
